Starcraft 2 single player
This bit is courtesy of Kotaku and focuses on the Starcraft 2 single player. The campaign will consist of stand-alone missions that interweave the various plot lines.
Hiking back up to the bridge, Raynor checks out the Star Map. This is where you’ll choose your missions. They’re much more open ended than in the previous StarCraft campaigns. You’ll be able to pick the planet or system you want to tackle next, progressing the story in your own way. Mission briefings provide the summary, objectives, bonus objectives, mission bounty, and recommended technology, so you’ll have to choose which best suits your current needs and matches your current level of tech.
If there was one criticism of Blizzard’s treatment of the single player portions of their RTS games, it was the linear plot. You go from one mission to the next with NO decisions being taken by you. This is about to change and the guys at Kotaku finish the article on a hopeful note:
The free form, open ended progressive storyline planned for StarCraft II looks like it could be a refreshing change of pace for fans of the Blizzard RTS formula.
Here's a couple of guides to help with your Starcraft - build orders, maps, units, tactics.

idk… i kinda liked the linear plot, i mean, it was more alike with the “story” type than the “game” type… if u know what i mean.

I think this system that you can choose where you want to go when you want to go there is cool it adds more choice in the game like you might want to go different paths every time you do the campaign over again. Like go on the hard way by going to hard lands that your arnt ready for. it adds a lot to the game i think so. i am really looking forward to it. =D

Men…in the first starcraft, there was a simply briefing room, but with feeling…you really believe in some parts that you are saving the universe from the zerg(specially in the protoss campaign)….I think with this free form, and the free briefing room, it will be killed this feeling…
Very sad….

i think its cool that were allowed to choose what missions we wanna do and wen we want to. if ur a risker ull start with the hardest first or if ur kinda new to starcraft the beginning. Point is i cant wait for starcraft 2 to come out espiecally since its one day before my birthday. I dont get why they wont reveal anything about the zerg. all we have seen is zerglings mutilisks and that giant worm thing that comes out of the ground and sends out zerglings which murdered the reapers i might say.

Note that StarCraft II has NO release date yet. And wont have one, for a long, long, long time.

The proble with this is that the missions wont form a good story. I mean i dont want to go into the game and chose the last mission first and have the whole ending runed. I hope its some thing like you have to unlok missions if you can
chose and i hope that they still let you try other missions after you do them. Even though i beat starcraft 1 i still go bak and play the story missions sum times.

I think it will have locked missions like it will have a choice of 3 easy beggining campain missions and the rest are locked until u complete 1 of the begginning campian missions.

maybe its like a fable type of game. like u choose this mission and all the other missions will be differnt for example say u need 2 take out some nuke silos on 1 planet and on the other u need 2 take out battlecrusiers (yes ive taken this from broodwar) if u take out the nukes then go on the next mission you wont need 2 worry about nukes but u still need 2 worry about battlecrusiers so i guess it might be like what u choose then changes the outcome of the future.

I would like to see some multiplayer missions with big complex maps and objectives that require good communication. THAT would be awesome

I just hope they continue the story and keep on going to the end(If we make the story thats not as fun in my opinion).
