Starcraft 2 beta
In his Gamespot interview, Chris Sigaty said that Blizzard usually takes “three and a half or four years to finish a game” and that Starcraft 2 would enter alpha testing later in the year.
Rob Pardo has poured some cold water on fan’s hopes for a Chirstmas release in 2007. In his MSN interview, Rob rules out any possibility for an early release:
The only thing I can give you [that’s] concrete is it’s not going to be this year. Some people were hoping, because of how advanced the game looks, that we’d have it out by Christmas, but that’s definitely not happening.
Does that mean that a Starcraft 2 beta is out of question as well? IGN has put a bet on that and if the alpha is later in the year, I wouldn’t rule out a beta by Chirstmas.

I hope they don’t put heroes. This is just my opinion, but ever since they put heroes on Warcraft 3, I just didn’t get the balancing anymore. It’s kind of like putting super weapons, which totally destroys strategy. Spread the word, spread the petition, if you believe in my point!

You’re right, heroes in the game, like warcraft, became kind of like a problem. In exception to starcraft the heroes in warcraft could be used in multipalyer games or just yurself against the computer. Hopefully in Starcraft 2 they won’t set the same type of idea to starcraft and just set the heroes in the story mode as you could call it. The heroes in the story mode are needed to give the gameplay a point, since they say that it’s going to be like the continuation of the stories in the first starcraft.

let’s be real starcraft is not a game ment for hero’s in the multi player asspect. WC3 was ment for hero’s because it’s not about massing huge armies, it’s about microing the shit out of your units and using your HEROS to the best of their abilities. If you didn’t know HOW TO DO THAT, then of course you are gonna say heros ruined the game. But like i stated SC is not ment to have heros in the multiplayer aspect of the game.

I agree with chris, heroes change gameplay from armies vs armies to small squads vs small squads. in my opinion they shouod have different options like melee with heroes and melee without.
also wc3 was completely different than wc2, I.e. the hero element so o hope they keep the classic feel of sc in the new game.
I agree with some posts but…sc triggered the hero maps loke commando warz, and wc3 just built onto that with lets just say DOTA.

i think if warcraft-like heroes are introduced in sc2 itd suck donkey dick, in warcraft its fine, but in sc2… both games r veryyy different, just think on the amount of units that die in an average game… lke 50 in warcraft vs 300 in sc…. just a random number, ok?… im no saying wc3 sux… they just r very different

Yeah. i agree with the people that are actually thinking.
Heroes are for games that have a small force. When you get 100 units, heroes don’t even make a major difference, and it just throws game play off. With smaller unit counts, heroes are pretty damn fun. Starcraft is a big unit count game, thus it shouldn’t have heroes.

I think that the agme should and shouldnt have heros in different parts like you shouldnt have them in custom games because you have such a high unit count and they will just die if massed or something they best with small armies but you should have them in the story and i also think they might have a special ability or two like they did in warcraft 3 but maybe not the level up thing. dont copy it from warcraft 3 that would just make it old but you need to have some heros sometimes because it really made warcraft 3 a good game and tons of people still play it a lot.

I am an original SC player…just to let you know i played this game since it came out back in 97, starting from the little free beta. im glad that there are people out there that know what they are talking about. i just have to say that heros is a no on starcraft. if you want that continue to play WC3. Heros will ruin the game for the fact as already stated that they are good for micro management. SC is ment to flood with huge infantry. and thats what makes the game fun. and please dont compare the two…they are both from blizzard. they will not want to make two different games be the same. thanks to WOW, SC2 took a long time. blizzard is here to make money, and yet there are already people waiting for diablo 3. Man I don’t know why you guys are so revved up about heroes anyways. What I’m interested in is the Starcraft2 World Editor. I mean just think of all the things you can do with that thing, cause you look at the Warcraft3 World Editor and you just got to expect the starcraft one to have at least 2 times the things you can do. Anyways its probably going to be ok with the heros anyways because I think Blizzard is probably taking in a lot of opinions right now and a lot of people are probably having the same debate.

the creator of SC2 said NO heroes in multiplayer.. they will be the main focus of single-player story mode.
as for the world editor, I had a glimpse at the doodads. all I can say is omfg. Use map setting boards will destroy the custom games of any other blizzard game ever.

Heroes were awesome in sc1, but to make them like they are in wc3 would just be stupid because that’s what wc3 is for. There will be heroes in the campaign mode, and that’s cool, but they don’t really make a big difference in the game anyways, just help you follow the story. Those who like wc3 heroes can go play wc3, and stop cussing people out for liking sc.

Oh another thing that I was really interested in was if they are going to put some of the warcraft characters in the custom games. Just imagine how realistic they would look, but then again now I’m mixing warcraft and starcraft in the whole thing and that really didn’t work when they put starcraft in warcraft 3. So that pretty much blows that off.

well in my opinion heros in sc 2 should be puted in multi payer and players shoyld be able to pick all of thr heroes skils but every thime a hero skils make him unbalanced the game shuld sa something like “The hero is not avaiable fore multy payer becouse he makes the rase be unbalanced” or make a option in multy player to vote what cind of game do palyers whant with or wtihout heroes.

Heroes should not be allowed to be built. That would keep it the same as SC, and everyone will be happy. i play alot of UMS games, and the added units help tremendously. having three types of ghosts that all do the same thing helps in a variety of ways, so people should stop whining about it.

Alright heres my view on heros. They were awsome in the story game but they put a limet on to the size of the fights on the multiplayer scale. On the other hand it was awsome to have extra units with cool abilitys to mess around with in home made games. The real issue I have with it is all of the microcommanding that takes place in Warcraft 3, it was fun for a bit but then haveing all your spells ready and lined up along with haveing to toggle though your units got old… quick. So this is what I say… Don’t have heros that level up give them abilitys that they start out with, then upgrade them like any other unit, death to micromanagement and on one last note… LET ME PEOPLE PLAY!

Heros are cool but i hate when player made maps( map settings)have it set where you can Upgrade 255 times. it makes it so unbalanced. so many of the games suck because units start to get regid. Hopfully star craft 2 has better AI and more triggers to make cool map setting games. And they definitely should make something that stops people from rushing when its a no rush game. there should be a ten minute no rush option and if u go in someones base with an attacking unit they lose all there attacking men.

Well i think Heoroes wouldnt be nice if they had non standard characteristics i mean you can have them in the normal size with normal health but make other units around them more agressive and i think they should include some kind of vetrancy meaning the more kills the standard units do the more power they gain this is because some times or most of the times in free for all more two teams clash together ruining both armies and leaving them susceptable to being overtaken by other teams vetrancy would balance things a bit for the remaining living armies should have more experience hence more powers besides in starcraft each unit in itself is = to a hero from warcraft 3 meaning each unit already have multiple special abilities

A solution that will satisfy everyone is that there are no leveling up WC3 style heroes in competitive multiplayer, but there is the ability for mapmakers to create WC3 style leveling up ablility based heroes for CUSTOM MAPS.

i think heroes are fun and can make for alot of fun situations, the just DONT BELONG IN SC.
if you want to have heroes play wc, if you want to go further into hereos go play wow or sum other boring no skill game.
After watching the gameplay vids i am a bit concerned about the ammount of units that will be able to ignore terrain hopefully this doesnt make some units overpowerful

I think that the heros will be useless in Starcraft 2, where is a game with large armies vs. large armies, most probably the heros will be in the Story Mode not in Multi-Player Mode. The heros in Starcraft 2 are used in Story Mode just to make it more cool and epic and introduce you in the story. Hadrianus out

if you dont like the heroes in starcraft dont play the bloody game. there are lots of scenarios and custom made games that exclude heros. i believe the heroes add a new dimension to the game and increase the strategy needed. they also give map makers like myself more to work with. as for those who think heroes cheapen the game in multiplayer, in default melee’s there can be no heroes at all. if you dont want heroes, dont use em. dont ruin it for those who like it.

I agree, Heros add a personality to the game and also enhance game play. They are not Gods, unless your one of these people who need cheat codes to play, and they do not change the game play by that much. Basically as we said up above, if you dont like games with heros, dont play them, end of story, nadda you can do about it anyways. They will prolly make a hero like unit because they did in SC any ways with the main characters, yes you had to keep them from being killed but hey, they did that in WC3 as well. its been done, just on a smaller scale, and from what i see blizz only scales up, not down. Game looks greant and cant wait to play it.

I have downloaded a file :starcraft2demo.rar ,which contains an Executable file ,and I believe as it is mentioned in the comments ,that this is a starcraft 2 demo version ,and it”s a little buggy but though playable,finally when i have download it,I found it locked by a passsword !,I am perplexed about it a lot,please if any any one knows about it ,to inform me if it”s real or just a fake .

Starcraft will not have heroes in multiplayer, do not compare warcraft and starcraft. They are two completely different games. Yes there is balance in warcraft 3 with heroes, infact, heroes game warcraft 3 uniqueness, it doesnt not make sense for blizzard to make two identical games with different models. agreed. sc and warcraft are completely different games. why would anyone randomly think that they were going to implement heroes into the game. also i attended blizzcon and i can confirm that there wasn’t a hero in the multilayer. and yeah i know that its just in alpha and they could be added etc. etc. but at blizzcon you could play versus a few of the developers and don’t worry, there wont be heroes for scII. if you have or have seen one of the cards that we got from blizzcon on the back of where it says to go to redeem the scII key [blizzcon.com/beta] it did say to come back after the week of the 13th [nov.] but now if you go there that part was taken out. so im not sure when were going to get access to the alpha. im sure that its going to take some time. but after playing alpha at blizzcon it makes me want to play it even more at home. even if its only 2v2 like it was there

I wouldnt mind heroes… Just you have to make them balanced with the other troops inside the game. Have them have weaknesses and strengths. Please try not to make them to strong like haveing one heroe destoying someones whole base.

Starcraft was never about “heroes” but masses, be it zerg terran or protoss. The key to it was to use the correct units in harmony with each other to create a force to be reckoned with.

dude,sc 1 is cool, cause there are no heroes, that are namely heroes, but there are still spelcaster units, i agree that there are too few, and there should be more, but i agree that in sc2, there shouldn’t be heroes that are just better than normal units. in wc3, a mage hero has still more hp than normal tank untis, wtf? so, get spells, get wierd buffs, that only adds to strategy, but dont get extreme costing units which are normal in every which way, but are just better, +hp +dmg +def +mp.
