Protoss Colossus
The Protoss Colossus is probably one of the most recognizable of the new Protoss units in Starcraft 2. It bares a close resemblance to the aliens in War of Worlds. It’s a huge walker, so in this respect it has a reference to The Empire Strikes Back.
Trivia aside, the Protoss Colussus looks like a replacement to the Reaver. The Reaver has a splash attack (scarabs) and apart from it’s obvious role as a ground support for Zealots, it is often used in hit-and-run missions on enemy bases. The shuttle carrying a reaver and support troops is definitely one of the better weapons in the Protoss arsenal, especially against Zerg expansions.
See the Protoss Colossus in a gameplay video and you’ll see it shares some of the Reaver characterstics.
Now, all the hit-and-run missions aside, the Reaver was definitely one of the LEAST utilized Protoss units. Its slow speed combined with the AI of the scarabs meant its usefulness was limited.
So what have changed in Starcraft 2? For one, the colossus still makes an excellent raider (see screenshot).
The Colossus has kept the splash attack but this time it’s not easy to evade it or mis-direct it with a few dancing Zerglings. In addition, you don’t need a shuttle to move it to higher/lower ground.
Going back to rock-paper-scissors, the Protoss Colossus looks like a hard counter to mid-game Zergling drops and Terran marine-medic push. It has to be a tier 2 Protoss unit in order to have a chance to counter the above. I’ll be extremely surprised if it turns out it has an air attack as well. So while the Colossus is the ultimate ground weapon, the Protoss Mothership still rules supreme in the air.

Well, one thing the Colossus is weak to is anti-air fire; they’ve announced that it’s so big that even units which can only target aircraft can also hit it. Which will be somewhat amusing to see a whole bunch of Scourge pound a ground unit.

idk, i just my friend has talked to me about how i should get starcraft and i finally looked and saw that they had starcraft 2 coming out so i saw the movies and i saw the colossus. dang it looks awesome. i think that as of right now not being a fan and knowing alot i am going to get the game just for the protoss and the colossus cause they just look absolutely awesome. read up on wiki and saw that the protoss have been nearly wiped out. it almost makes me cry *tear* jk that such and advanced race can just be wiped out. stupid humans realize who the good guys are, or at least the guys that look cool

An interesting question: can they walk over water? or through it? you know like a dropship would? that would be an interesting thing to raid a base from the sea but tanks would hurt a lot. just an idea it would be cool to attack from water. Also does it have the long ranged bombardment that the reaver had? you know like stay way back and juts kill the defensives of a base like the reaver could? i think a lot of interesting things could happen with the Colossus. I cant wait =D

hey the colossus is an awesome unit no doubt and im a protoss and terran lover. i think this game is gonna be great. but the unit seems a bit to good to be true . this and the mothership and the dark templar and reaver seem to give them to much of an advantage.

hi i am a zerg player and i think those protosss unit are so strong againts zerg so why we dotn create a overlord that attck and is like a scout and can carry lots of units
who win a colosus or a ultralisk?
