Diablo 3 items for real money

What’s the biggest news about Diablo 3? You might think that the biggest news is that Diablo’s official Twitter posted:

The #D3 beta test approaches! Please make sure your #Battle.net #Beta Profile information is up to date.

So you might think that with Diablo 3 beta as close as next week (or the one after it).

No, the biggest news is that Blizzard is a sell out: you will be able to purchase items with real money. Ok, not you but other people with money. And no, it will not be profitable to farm items, because the Chinese farmers are so much more effective. So expect to pay money for equipment.

Longer rant from the Cynical Brit:

Diablo 3 beta release date

Diablo 3 beta is probably just a few weeks away.

Blizzard has already finalized the box art for Diablo 3 beta, so that you can select it in your Battle.net account as part of the beta selection process.

Btw, if you still haven’t signed up for the beta, go to your Battle.net account now.

In addition to the Diablo 3 box art, Blizzard’s PR machine has roared to life, announcing a press tour starting August 1.

According to MMO Champion, it’s the same pattern as with Cataclysm – the beta release date is probably 2 weeks away.

Diablo 3 Followers

Now, we have been Diablo 3 followers for the last 5 years but we aren’t going to be talking about that. Followers is the name of the revamped Hireling system from Diablo 2.

First off, it’s important to state that these guys will only be hirable on Normal difficulty. Back in Diablo 2, I only hired these guys for Act II because Duriel killed my Sorceress in something like 2 hits. So the first point will be if they are going to be useful at all. Who needs a crutch at Normal?

Second, they’ve reduced the choices to the three core RPG classes: the Templar, Scoundrel, and Enchantress. You get the archetype, right? Warrior, Ranger, Mage.

You can customize your follower by choosing four out of their twelve skills. You can upgrade their equipment as well. Each follower has two weapon slots, two ring slots, and one of their own unique class-specific item.

In conclusion, I like the system but frankly, I’ll be done with Normal difficulty pretty quickly. Btw, the official excuse for keeping them only to Normal difficulty is that followers die to quickly in Nightmare or Hell. Well, beef them up!

Diablo 3 diversity

Blizzard recently released screenshot from the MALE version of the Demon Hunter. Well, no wonder it has taken them 10 years to follow up on Diablo 2. They are probably hard at work making a female Monk.

I didn’t need a female Barbarian and I certainly didn’t need a male Amazon back in Diablo 2. So what’s the point of making all this gender diversity? It doesn’t expand gameplay, it just bloats the game’s production schedule with redundant renderings of the same moves, special effects, etc.

Back in the days of classic RPGs, you had limited options when it had to customization but you had a lot of gameplay options. Nowadays, it’s all about customizing your avatar’s tattoos, makeup, jewelry, hairstyles. What is this? A Barbie sim?

Diablo 3 Set items

Diablo 2 Sets took notoriously long time to collect. So long, in fact, these items were usually obsolete by the time you collected all the pieces.

It looks like Blizzard is determined to improve on Diablo 2 items and the set items are one of the challenges.

Says Jay Wilson, Lead Designer of Diablo 3:

We understand the problems with item sets. We want to solve them. Set items are under work now, if we cant’ find a way to solve the problem it won’t be in the game. But we’ve got a couple of ideas on the table and we think it’ll work out.

Whatever Jay is doing, I hope it works. Last time I played, I completed Sigon’s Complete Steel somewhere around level 25. Considering the set has a level requirement of 6, this is something that’s definitely subject to improvement by the Diablo 3 team.

Diablo 3 class Witch Doctor

So why am I coming back to the Witch Doctor? Well, for most part, because I just found this HD video of the Witch Doctor in action:

However, as I’m watching it, I’m thinking to myself – here’s an archetype that I don’t want to play … EVER. I felt the same way about the Druid, a Diablo 2 LoD class.
