You know we’re constantly debating weather Diablo 3 will be a MMO or not. Recently, I posted about the possibility that Diablo 3 will be available on Playstation 3. I thought then that if Blizzard really go for a console game (finally!), this pretty rules OUT a MMO future for Diablo 3. Not so, according to this info:
In response to Microsoft’s successful Xbox Live network, Sony announced a unified online service for the Playstation 3’s console at the 2006 PlayStation Business Briefing meeting in Tokyo; tentatively titled “PlayStation Network Platform”. Sony has confirmed that the service will be always connected, free and include multiplayer support. However developers are permitted to charge a subscription fee, as is common with MMO games.
So the PNP is free for all, unless developers decide they want to charge a fee. So Diablo 3 on Playstation 3 doesn’t rule out a MMO as many of us have hoped.
I still feel that after the failed Starcraft Ghost game, Blizzard is eager to try another one for a console. Looking at their franchise, both Warcraft and Starcraft 2 are out of the question because of their strong RTS aspects.
So their strongest contenter is Diablo.
Diablo 2 set quite a few sales records, so there’s proven demand for a sequel. It just remains to be seen …
Help spead the news about Diablo 3 on Playstation 3!
