Diablo the Movie confirmed

Update (June 28): Diablo 3 has been announced at the WWI in Paris. You can now review the Diablo 3 trailer, screenshots, as well as demo.

Well, to be totally honest with you - it was confirmed and then the confirmation was removed from the site. So where does that leave us? I guess it’s the usual secrecy surrounding any Blizz project.

Diablo movieHere’s the LONG story:

The guys from Legendary Pictures (yep, the guys behind 300) have posted on their site that a Diablo movie is in the making. Diablo was listed in the “In Development” section.

Once the news about the movie leaked to fan sites, Diablo was promptly removed. My guess is it was a phone call from Blizzard that got them going.

Besides these facts, we have the following:

  1. Legendary Pictures are already working on a WoW-based movie, so they look like an obvious choice for a Blizzard project.
  2. Vin Diesel’s movie – A Man Apart – was originally named El Diablo which resulted in a lawsuit from Blizzard “claiming they trademarked Diablo and intended to make a movie based on their game”

I’m hoping and praying a Diablo movie is in the making. I loved the Diablo 2 cinematics and making the next logical step – the big screen – will be an amazing experience.

Unless you have some screenshot of it being posted on the Legendary Pictures website, i don’t believe half of what you are stating .. sorry, would be nice though, i’d like to see Diablo on the big screen as well :)

Err, Nocturnal in case u havent noticed, Diablo movie was listed under “In Development” section on the Legendary Pictures website. Due to the overwhelming response, Legendary Pictures has removed it from that section. It seems pretty obvious that diablo is already in the making and would be released in theatres. It’s just a matter of time. FYI, Blizzard had been keeping silent about the whole matter ever since. Isn’t it obvious tht there aren’t any screenshots or any sort as they’re trying to keep this whole Dialo movie thing private for a while?

I think the idea is good but you need to modify it a little.

Exactly my point, there was a response to it, but no one had the brains to take a screenshot of it while it was there ..

Most video game adaptations to film usually suck really bad, but they sell out to hardcore crowds, and the hardcore crowds friends. If they really wanted to make a blockbuster worth watching there are a few things they could do to make it worth watching over and over again.

First Legendary should make Peter Jackson the director of the Diablo film.

Secondly they shouldn’t allow tons of CGI, I think puppet work would give the film a more ultra realism, especially with skeletal forms, and demons. Some CGI would help with the backgrounds, but should definately be limited. Also don’t forget to make the movie 3D in Theatres, because it really brings you into the movie.

And Finally the plot would be amazing, as long as they stick to the basic plot line that Blizzard has already come up with. The movie should stick to its incredibly dark theme, with horror elements.

With these suggestions I think a Diablo film adaptation would dominate the big screen, and possibly put an end to the curse of video game movies sucking.
