Update: A new rumor puts the Diablo 3 release date on 09-09-09!
A recent rumor that Diablo 3 will be released BEFORE Starcraft 2 actually prompted Blizzard to officially address the issue of the release date.
Here’s the summary in short: Battle.net 2.0 will be released simultaneously with the release of Starcraft 2. The best guess for that is early 2009, with a Starcraft 2 beta coming out late in 2008.
So Diablo 3 will come out AFTER that … possibly by the end of 2009. An encouraging news will be if Blizzard have a playable “demo” at Blizzcon.
Update: Here’s the quote from Rob Pardo (Wired blog):
A lot of the way we develop is: We wanna make sure the game is really fun and the visual fidelity we want … we wanna make sure we have a small area that feels really done so we know what to build. So even though it looks really complete a lot of the content is just not there. We have a long ways to go to build each of the different acts in the game and put in all the quests and all the different monsters. We have a lot of development ahead of us before it will be something … It will definitely be out after StarCraft II.”

Blizzard always has the most wacky release times. My friends are convinced its coming out before Christmas but if it was they would already have the date announced. Diablo II was made in 2000. So this game better be 9 years worth the wait. There is only so many times i can watch the game-play trailer ^_^

The old Diablo 2 took about 5 years to complete so its no wonder that Diablo 3 project started last 2005 and is still not available for release. Great things are worth the wait.

As of July 2, 2008, there is no set release date for Diablo 3. This follows Blizzard’s policy of releasing when “it’s ready”.

It’s too early to estimate Diablo III’s release date. As with all Blizzard Entertainment games, our goal is to create a game that is as fun, balanced, and polished as possible. I bought diablo 1 right when it came out…and diablo 2, right when that came out, and d2 expansion right when that came out. I’ve played to 99 40+ times. and even in hardcore I got to 90+ quite a few times. I love this game just as much as any of you. but if they rush its going to be one of those “eh…the second one was better” games. i’d rather wait and have a great game, than not wait and be upset that the second one was much better. Waiting sucks…play different games until it comes out. I personally I have bought 3 computers to run d3 on all of them. and the computer I’m currently using, I also got a projector, and a new monitor, and a 47 inch hd 1080 tv, all for d3. I’m just as much of a fan as any of you, and I think all of that shit proves it. I am telling you guys, if you rush them , they will rush, and it wont be as good as it could be. I’m hoping if I wait, it will be the best game I’ve ever played, but I know if they rush, it wont nearly be as good as it could be.

Well that rumor is really wrong. They wouldn’t have put it on the pre-order list if it was going to be coming out 09/09/09. Blizzard only told that WotLK was pre-orderable 3-4 months before it was released. So I highly doubt its going to be that late. Probably summer or something but no way near that late

I’ve been in love with diablo from the beginning. I remember playing diablo 1 religiously back in 96. A buddy of mine had 4 computers in his garage and we’d play multiplayer lan games and it was incredible. Until we found out how to dupe then it got kind of ridiculous with us having no self control lol. After finishing the game several times I finally got the internet and heard about battle.net which ended up owning my life. I even managed to get my brother into it and he only ever liked sports games. Though all he did was stay up on all the latest hacks so he could ruin everyones day and collect ears being a hardcore PK douche. As many flaws that were in the game I still loved playing it to death. I went ape shit when I found out about diablo 2 but only had to wait just a couple years for it to be released. It ended up being a million times better than diablo 1 and well worth the wait. Playing hardcore was the most bad ass shit until lag kills your level 97 necro while trying to use a waypoint. I don’t think it’s even been much more than a year since the official announcement of D3. After having seen a lot of what they’ve done on D3, giving them all the time they need to finish the game will be worth it. As much of a die hard fan that I am, I do have other shit to do with my life besides curling up under my desk in the fetal position crying about diablo 3 not being out yet and it taking too long. Life WILL go on without the possession of a video game, regardless of how incredible it is. I’d rather blizzard didn’t try to work against time on this third installment of such a great series. I can just imagine everyone bitching about all the flaws in the game due to an early release for all the crying “fans”. So even if it’s not released in september, I might be slightly disappointed, but I’d know it’s for very good reason and well worth it in the end.
i hope the item system will be bigger than d2, so that the economy will be nice. A DEF AWESOME VARIETY OF ITEMS IS THE WAY TO GO IN A SUCCESSFUL GAME!!

I was addicted when it was simply Diablo – friends and I spent hours playing until the theme music when you in town could be heard after the game was closed. Then D2 came out and the addiction grew, better graphics and storyline. Again hour spent playing the game and the expansion pack. Now we are simply beside ourselves to see D3, from what can be seen – it will by far exceed all expectations and land Blizzard king of vedio games again – LONG LIVE THE KING!!

Is it just me or trailers and game play look like they are a RIP OFF of LORD OF THE RINGS. Will Gandalf and LEGOLAS be there. All the bad guys are so why not the good guys. In all seriousness blizzard seems to be lacking some artistic imagination if they have to rip off LORD OF THE RINGS.

WOW Is spammed thousands of times a day by gold sellers accross all it’s servers and realms. The same old gold shops spamming away for years without blizzard doing anything to stop it. Most likely the legal teams involved in stopping them have been set to sue for a royalties % from each gold shop instead. Simply allowing it to continue for years as it pays for updates and some server maintenance… bubbly at the shareholder’s meeting lol.
As well as that it will also have in game transactions (Classic blizzard game imbalance) allowing new players to buy items and “status” in minutes that would take a “legit” player weeks or months to achieve.
This is of course money grabbing, not wanting to ensure we all get a good game. The excuses being given now say they want to make sure we all get a great game but in fact it’s more like we want to make sure we maximise profit and that the game continues to make us money after the customer buys it. Observe the patterns of other blizzard b.net / a.net games you’ll see this is undeniable. If diablo 2 is spammed by bots daily so much that every server has unplayable lag

(WOW gold sellers sales yearly into the millions of dollars a year – happygolds.com a subsiduary of blizzard?) The combined yearly sales of gold return more money each year than wow cost to develop. Blizzard games have taken gold sales and turning fake gold into real gold to a new level. This game miserably failed in EU and ended up being sold to some asian developer who actually made it work..successful.. in fucking china!!! Flagship studios staff all fired and the company that made the game faded into history. You can still buy this game on the shelves now in stores across the UK but when you get into the EU servers they are extreme lag ghost towns lol. Fuck blizzard and all their existing and previous staff. Fuck them with nail bats. Their games are a lie and full of blatent money grabbing imbalance.

When i quit wow i gave all my several thousands of LEGIT gold away in small amounts 100g at a time. Some scrub beggar got 100g then kept opening trade asking for more… Typical tard from wow. Blizzard happy to take your money to play with tards like this…You think D3 will be any different? lol
If anything it will be worse than wow and with any luck will fail like hellgate london. They will simply hold back too much content from free players for it to be of playability at all. You wont be obliged to pay monthly but your game will be realy shit if you dont

I do not believe this game will be released this year, since sc 2 is now going to beta soon. Ask your self the question noone is competeting with them, so if they some how did release d3 they would only hurt there selfs. reguardless if they did make some killer sales buy releaseing two games at once. They are going to take a hit from WOW as well. just my own thoughts if sc 2 comes out before xmas or near xmas. you might want to plan on seeing D3 in the summer of 2010 or Jan. 2011, which is going to suck but I know the wait is going to be worth the wait.

I can see it being closer to summer 2010, The new class will prob be a healer, the archivist was a April fools, the sad thing is they wasted time developing stuff for that class for April fools, when they could of been finishing the game off, so we could finally play it.

After all our waiting I finally got my hands onthe game yesterday (9/9/09) and I stayed up all night playing it, it was so great and I have all the songs stuck in my head! I mean at first your gonna be like, how can this thing really have good multiplayer but when you get into it, it works out so much better then you would think!!! I just can’t believe they kept with their actual release date with something this big!! It’s like all the hype was actually true for once and to the makers of the game I have to say KUDOS! I could play this game for hours and hours at a time and those of you who use cheats GROW UP! you don’t even need them to have fun!! I’m so hyped I can’t believe I stoped playing to come to school, I keep humming those songs in my head over and over. I just cant wait till I get to go home and play it again. Owell I would recommend blizzard not announce games so far ahead of release you are getting the ripple effect by dick teasing your fans, frankly if I don’t see d3 or star craft 2 before April of 2009 I will have lost interest completely.
Chances are good after April of next year most will wait till its bargain bin.
The longer this gets dragged on I come to two conclusions
#1 the announcement of both titles was a PR stunt to create buzz for blizzard
#2 The announcement of both titles so long before their release was very stupid move on blizzards part.
In ending with all this dev time I expect something way better than dragon age origins.

They may have announced it much too early but who gives a shit. Marketing is a game and I think if Blizzard wants to tell us the game is coming out earlier than their supposed to all the power to them.
Also on the fact that they have been working on it since 2005 either says two things: they are adding a lot of extra content or their was a problem when Blizzard North was closed.
As for a release, I’m guessing either Q3 or Q4 of 2010 so don’t get your panties in a bunch and in the mean time I’m getting excited for a good game.

Im sure the game will be released, but as for anything beyond great content, dont be so sure this game was worth 10 years of waiting, not that I think any video game is, but think of it as good marketing, anything to keep you talking about blizzard, anything to keep you in the scope of theyre media, well its working rite now isnt it??? I feel sorry for some of you, I put my copies of D2 away like 5 years ago, and until tonight had completely forgotten about this game altogether. Dont get me wrong, this was an excellent game (D2), especially by means of storyline and character class and skill structure. Sure it could have used a few improvements like maybe selecting a point in the storyline to start at at will, or improving online play (adding new elements).
