Diablo 3 release – 2011?

My worst fears are being confirmedDiablo 3 is again on the backburner when it comes to its release.

Blizzard have stated that TWO titles will be released in 2010. One of course, is Starcraft 2. Fair enough, it was announced a long time ago.

The other title due in 2010 is WoW Cataclysm. Blizzard needs to keep the money machine printing. I did freeze my account months ago and I suspect I’m not the only one.

Here’s the confirmation from Shacknews: “Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime has confirmed that just-revealed World of Warcraft expansion Cataclysm and StarCraft II are the two titles the company expects to hit in 2010″.

What a joke. A 3 year wait for a game from a powerhouse like Blizzard??
World is going to blow up in 2012.

  2. 2 Andrei Pfeiffer Sep 4th, 2009 at 3:55 am

Dudes, I don’t know why you are so surprised :)
After all you’ve seen so far how could you asume that the game will be released in 2010? You’ve seen some demos/presentations. The game is very far from finished. You’ve only seen maybe 20% so far.

    What you haven’t seen yet:
    - the rest of the skills (you’ve only seen 5 for each class)
    - the 5th class
    - the changes that EACH RUNE will affect EACH SKILL on EACH CLASS (this could be a 1 year work, dude). This can be done only after all the skills are perfect (this is also going to take a lot of time and a lot of testing)
    - the terrain, the items, the monsters, the bosses, music, sound effects, cinematics, game balance, etc etc etc etc etc.

Common, 2011 is good, but I fear worse. Diablo 2 was delayed 2 years AFTER THE RELEASE DATE. For now, you don’t even have a release date, so I would say not to expect so much to buy D3 in 2011.

im holding whit Andrei. if you lokk how many monsters they have made i could like only see 20 or something like that… try make a game out of the :D

this is bad as wish….. Do you guys what is the worst? The problem by delaying the game is to make more people addict to it. They spend more time to talk about it. They use the “blizzcon” and more to make people say wow and make people to search for diablo 3 on google for 2.5 millions research every months and for 70 000 research every month for Diablo 3 release date. This is annyoing to death. They are just crazy, greedy and they only want to make more money out of us, but something I think they havent understood yet is that they will make a lot more money releasing more game. Yo, they haven’t made money with diablo since what? 2005 they better wake up it will be 2010 and no release.

  5. 5 Clownius Sep 10th, 2009 at 9:16 pm

I’m sure there a lot more people like me who don’t play WoW and don’t want Starcraft.
As if they are not making enough money now. Put the expansion on hold and put all resources into D3. I bet a lot of people will ditch WoW and move to Diablo anyway so why expand it?
I waited for EQ2 for 12-18 months and that was bad enough. Now we have to wait 36+ months for this.
This isn’t the only MMO coming to market.

    And what Marshall said,
What’s the point of getting someone addicted to the game if it’s not generating money for them in the long term. I won’t be suprised if we do have to subscribe

    @clownius – Lmfao!
Yeah dude it’s messed up, man! I mean if blizzard ever does decide to release the f#@kin game – that being 2011, it’ll only leave us with year to play it before the world ends. And that would just be a waste of money. Damn mofo’s! Hehe.

  7. 7 Worda.Murda Sep 15th, 2009 at 10:57 am

Another thing! I’ve written myself off with this game… Honestly.

BORDERLANDS is going to be the sh!t people!!!

And once it’s been released the blizzard can go shove this game up their arses. No offence, but this just how I feel.

I see Andrei is the only clever guy here.

For the goddess’s sake D3 is NOT even in ALPHA, it is not being postponed for any marketing issues. It is not being postponed for hype, it is not being postponed due to WoW.

Blizzard has more-or-less 5 teams (MMO, RTS, RPG, B.net, Vintage) It is not like working on a title takes resources from another, nor are they interchangeable, each developer is an expert in his field but to put them in different stuff would just be a waste.

Also, the fact that they do not get money for D2 since 2005 (which in not accurate anyway since people still buy the game) and they still work on patches for it should just show you how Blizz caters to their gamers.

They would make more money releasing more games per year and releasing them sooner… but then they would be EA. Nope I think I’ll stay with Blizz, even if it gives me a (wrong) reputation of a fanboy.

ps: Things still missing in D3:
    - female Monk is still in concept (which means not all effort is in the 5th class)
    - 5th class is also in concept (skills, models, animations, effects, etc)
    - itemization (all models, all inv icons, all +attributes, all affixes, etc)
    - Talisman system (info n/a)
    - Skill Runes (on hold until all Skill Trees are finished, all different effects for all and each of every active skill of every class)
    - Acts 2, 3 and 4 are probably not finished with the 4th maybe even not started
    - Act separating Cinematics (HUGE amount of time needed)

And this is just what we know about and I can remember. 2011 is really as soon as they can have it ready. If it comes out in 2011 I will be happy with Blizzard even if I, as everyone else, wanted to play it now.

  9. 9 Daboke Sep 24th, 2009 at 9:35 pm

I’d rather have a well finished game with an ending worth playing for. I don’t want the game to be a dissapointment or not worth playing through a 2nd (or 50th time like previous) times through.
I hope they take as long as is needed. Hell, I’ll wait til a day before the world ends…. I know what I’ll be doing when it ends.

Don’t rush the game!! Release when ready!!

  10. 10 Hasse Sep 25th, 2009 at 12:35 pm

Its sad that Diablo III first i released in 2011… But perfection games like Diablo III takes atleast 5 years to make. so what could you expect.
Many fans of the story like my self, need to see and play the best of the best when it come to Diablo III. not some unfinished crap game. Let Blizzard take there times to craft the best game ever seen…
then its even more worth waiting for. =)

  11. 11 Tom Oct 4th, 2009 at 7:30 am

OMG whining impatient kids! If you had any idéa about the complexity of making such games…

And if they did release a half-finished game early, you would whine about how crappy it is instead.

Wouldn’t you rather have a game that’s doesn’t crash, and with an awesome gameplay, than one that would only be playable after a year of patching?

Too many game producers release unfinished games that don’t work, just to have you download huge patches to fix them afterwards.

There are other games out there in the meanwhile. Now go play them instead… or have a try at reality;-)

  12. 12 Morgg Oct 15th, 2009 at 5:45 am

Folks, don’t freak out about this. Yes it sucks cause we have been waiting ages for Diablo 3. But lets remember this is Blizzard. And Blizzard has a mantra that they follow which is, “never rush a game”. So I say let them take the extra time. If they take another year, then they can make the game look completely awesome and gritty like a Diablo game should look. Then we will all worship at the feet of the Blizzard gods when it does come out and feel like we are playing a quality game.

And frankly, WOW should come first. It is a completely awesome MMO that has set a standard in gaming that nobody has yet rivaled. So deal with it.

Hi what do you think the last class will be i have heard that it should be a plaldin/warrior but i am not sure????

  14. 14 Therecarnation Oct 18th, 2009 at 11:53 pm

Well of course the date will be put forward more and more because they don’t going to get as much money as they get for WOW and then we have starcraft that have been on hold for a long time now if I don’t remember right it they was working on it at the same time as WOW so I won’t be surprised if it wont be released at 2013 or something like that but any way i looking forward for it even if it takes 10 more years! Diablo will always be a games close to my heart =)

  15. 15 DJS Oct 27th, 2009 at 6:38 am

    Man too many impatient people..
Can you wieners please just stfu?
Let them take their time with this, I and I’m pretty shore any true Diablo fan wants to see the true gritty grotesque gruesome sickness in this game when it finally comes out. Right?
Cause if you don’t wana wait for it you can then have them bring D3 out looking like WoW on crack cocain with rainbows an butterfly’s…
Please just shut it and wait.

Exactly how did you freeze your WoW account?

Do you mean you canceled it?

  17. 17 Diablo Oct 30th, 2009 at 6:46 am

Yes, I meant I canceled it and now the status is FROZEN :)

  18. 18 diablofan32 Dec 18th, 2009 at 9:55 am

I just heard from my trusted source that it would be released at the end of 2014. But the problem is we wont be able to play becuse the world will end in 2012 :/ they could at least give us a day!!!

  19. 19 gyukoo Dec 18th, 2009 at 9:57 am

yea i heard that too… Blizzard dosnt belive in that stuff. end of the world xD

oh well we can always play diablo 2.. hurray!!!……..

WHY BLIZZARD WHY ARE U TORTERING US!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. 20 Frunka Dec 18th, 2009 at 11:18 pm

Honestly, WOW is not a good game in my opinion. I tried to play the game because i am a loyal blizzard gamer. I played WoW for 1 month, i made a Paladin, i just never got into it. If i had made a Paladin on even diablo 1 i would have been into it within 10 minutes. The story is just much better and it is interesting. If they increased the reality and made a good PVP aspect in diablo three, it could go down as one of the best games in history and i will one hundred percent play it and be addicted (24 yr old accountant) along with about 100 of my friends.
I feel that diablo is one of the greatest games i have ever played. Dark Age of Camelot was also an amazing game in my opinion, however they ruined it when they came out with the second expansion. Blizzard should put as much as they can into diablo 3 and also a great amount of time in maintaining the diablo feeling. Its in blizzard best interest to put all their time into diabo 3, they can always come out with new patches and versions of d3 to make more money. It will be the most successful game guarenteed.

how hard is it for a company like this to make a game in 3 years? come on… 40 people 3 years and one game? just make the game, wow is one of the gayest games ive eva seen and you wanna spent time on that crap? your wasting you time with it, everyone is getting real tired of wating…

  24. 24 jake Jan 6th, 2010 at 3:13 pm

    MAKE THE GAME!!!!!!!!

  25. 25 foolishgamer Jan 19th, 2010 at 2:02 am

hmmmm..for a company as big as blizzard i dont see it that hard to pull out more resource and working force to finish a project like D3 that they know is going to be a big hit .unless ofc they like to tease and build up more suspense for the game or some whacked up reason or commercial or 100 other reason which am sure are not in the gamer favor … i mean come on a project like D3 was talked about and worked on long ago . if blizz wanted to finish it sooner they would have .. but its like some thing dark is keeping them from going faster.

-and think about it 1 more year can mean more/better games in the end if i see a better game then D3 i will play it and forget about D3.

-and lol who know if anyone is still alive in 2011 to play there game :P .

  26. 26 foolishgamer Jan 19th, 2010 at 2:10 am

and talk about people who dont mined to wait for perfection .. i agree having some thing perfect is better then a common low quality game… but that doesnt mean taking a life time to do it .. its not like they are lacking experience /manpower/the money or any other reason for making the game better .. So before you say let them take there sweet time ..ask about what kept them this long in the first place >_> .

  27. 27 peraaa Jan 23rd, 2010 at 2:07 am

foolishgamer -> About pulling out more resource to finish the game:

You know how hard is to find a good employee these days? Hiring a new employee could end to delay the release. If new employee isn’t so much into Diablo kind of stuff, he could do his work with half of intrest (or know-how what ever) to finish his work. At the end it could mean that others have to fix the mistakes that this one guy did.

And that’s just if he’s not into Diablo. He may not be professional, his sosial skills might be bad (affect to the other persons), etc.

Pulling an employee out of other project isn’t the answer either. Other projects will delay. And that’s not something that big Blizzard would want.

Blizzard has their schedule and they hold on to it. Yet again, it’s a great way to market the game.

  28. 28 CAPSLOCK BANDIT Feb 16th, 2010 at 12:03 am

Yeah, i realize how much effort goes into creating a game like this..Just think of all the items and runes and monsters and characters from diablo 2, and then it’s expansion, like holy fuck…

And i’m pretty sure i read somewhere that the item base is supposed to be BIGGER in D3 than it was in D2. D2 had the biggest item base i’ve ever seen, like just think of all the weapons and stuff.

And yeah, i garuntee you Diablo 3 will have more players than WoW, but you also have to keep in mind that WoW players pay every month to play, LOL.

And yeah, i totally agree that WoW blows. I think it’s one of the most horrible MMO’s ever. They needed to keep the Warcraft genre like it was in Warcraft 3 IMO, but who the hell am i, certainly not one of the millions that play it still.

AND…On top of all the work theyre doing for the characters, theyre making customization possible for each male/female character…Like, Blizzard has a HUGE undertaking in Diablo 3.

Yeah, i’d love to go buy Diablo 3 tomorrow, and yeah, i would love to think that they’re tricking us and that it’s actually coming out in 2010, and yeah i’d love to think that they won’t set back the release date past 2011, but this is blizzard and there track record, espically with diablo, is anything but good when it comes to releasing games when they say they will.

The only thing that REALLY REALLY REALLY pisses me off is that they HAD to showcase this in 2008. Like what the fuck, you know?

  29. 29 GRE Feb 19th, 2010 at 1:11 pm

D3, I really couldnt care less anymore, there are plenty games out there to entertain everyone. I am fast losing interest in this D3 saga

By the time they do release the game and put all us idiot suckers out of our misery it will probably turn out to be 3rd rate anyway.

I am sick of all the hype surrounding this so called game and all the unproven ideas thrown about like confetti.

They wont release till 2010 now!! In 2010 that will propably turn into 2011//12 and you know what i really couldnt give two f#@ks

So…how many more gamers have we starting to think along these lines??

  30. 30 koolio4 Feb 23rd, 2010 at 12:31 pm

You know what. After all the years that these people have put and are going to put in this game, I doubt that they’re going to say, wtf, we were supposed to be working? And then pull a piece of crap out of their butt and market that.

I respect them for taking all the time they want. And I am so psyched for the game!!!

    2011 here I come!!!
