Update (June 28): Diablo 3 has been announced at the WWI in Paris. You can now review the Diablo 3 trailer, screenshots, as well as demo.
Blizzard adopted Havok 4 recently. So will we be seeing Diablo 3 running on Havok 4.0? Some of the advantages that I see are that:
- Using an engine means they’ll complete Diablo 3 sooner (2007?)
- Havok supports Mac OSX, so making Diablo 3 run on a Mac will be seamless
- Havok supports PS3 so MAYBE we can see Diablo 3 on PS3.
The Diablo on Playstation stuff is perhaps premature BUT listen to this: Havok gets three times better performance from PS3 compared to a high-end PC. And why would Blizzard want an engine that does well on a console unless they plan to use it.
So we could be seeing Diablo 3 on Playstation as well. If we do, there’s a good chance Diablo 3 won’t be a MMO.

A rep from Bliz said that they HAD in fact made a working version of D3 but it was still too glitchy to move forward. Why not you say? I’ll tell you why. WoW. He said that since the company has been making so much money (56million a month) that putting the time to develop D3 would be financially risky.
Another reason I don’t think they’ll release it for PS3 is that Blizzard knows the backlash would be insane. Maybe IF they do release it for the PS3 they’ll do it for PC as well.. but if they just do a console solo game.. their support would fall through the floor.. less the World of Warcraft players mind you.

Ok this whole thing for Diablo 3 is awsome but they have been saying thing like this for years and still see nothing, like that star craft ghost for PS2 in 2001 Not released, If this Diablo 3 is being made or being thought of I do hope it succeds but I know it wont if the start chargeing or turn it into a single player RPG, seeing how Diablo has always been a MMO and got a rep for people that still play it such as my self, the bigest rep is gain from great play, story line and The design.
So I hope they take there time designing this and give us just as good but alot better then what we have seen before.

Having Diablo 3 on a Playstation 3 would be a terrible move. Not only is Diablo just naturally not a console thing, but the playstation has very little time left. I see no reason to prolong it’s fate by giving it a quality game when it will just crash and burn like we all know it will. Though many people think that playstation 3 is winning the console war, it is in fact last place. Did you know that sony losses money with every single console they sell? Microsoft does too, but not as much. The only company that accually makes profit is Nintendo. Diablo would not be good on Wii though. It’s just ment for a mouse, that’s really all there is to it…

I think the whole idea of Diablo 3 on Playstation 3 will change the status of the whole Diablo franchise. I personally don’t own a PS3, but if it Diablo 3 were to come out for PS3, I’d be F*$&ing pissed. Because then i’ll have to work my ass off and make 660 for a PS3 and the game itself… Personally i think it’d be more convenient if it was for the computer. Diablo 1 can out for playstation 1 and it was the same thing as on the pc i think that if they make it they need to put it on ps3 and pc and keep it the same because ps3 has a hard drive so why not make it install on it and it will be same and make it that if you have the pc version you can play with the ps3 verson on line and if there needs to be more butten then the playstation has make a remote the comes with the game. diablo its better the wow and ps3 is better the xbox360

Well I’ve read all the posts concerning this topic and while I normally don’t weigh in on these things I feel there are just a few thngs I’d like to address first off. lets face it the ps3 is expensive…. or is it? I own a $2,000 computer top of the line I also own a $600 ps3 note: that now you can get one for about $400 (I hate waiting) the ps3 is a much better gaming beast period. it’s faster and looks better (graphics) than my fancy pants comp. If you bought the graphics card in the ps3 for your comp. it would cost around $400 and probably fry your processor. Need another reason blue ray has finally won. Everone is dropping support for HD now, and stand alone blue ray players are still much more expensive than a ps3. I would love to see d3 on the ps3, why? It would look just awesome!! and the gameing controls dont have to change, I can plug in any usb mouse or keyboard into my ps3 and it works just fine. Hold on now I know what your thinking but I’m not really biased to any one platform or another I just love games period. I own all systems. 360 has better games (for now) playstation is a killer system and everyone needs a comp. but the biggest reason I’d love to see d3 on ps3 is also sadly the biggest reason I probably never will. Playstation’s online gaming is absolutely FREE oh and I still get patches for games downloaded FREE all the time you will have to pay for any expanion releases. Sony also dosen’t like to share, but really popular game designing companies get to deside which platform their games get released on and they base this on PROFIT potential!!! Which sadly is why games like grand theft auto are now multiplatform lets face it blizzard will not agree to a single platform release too much money to lose and there never will be a d3 untill people stop playing WoW. I hope Blizzard develop the game to all the consoles that can run it and obviously on PC, to show every one what a great game Diablo III will be.
Some people need to get some facts straight atleast about this. Yes Diablo 1 came out on the ps1, but it came to the ps1 a year after it came out to the PC. It took a year to release the mac version as well.
Hellfire was never ported to ps1, hell it even came out before the ps1 diablo 1 release.
Diablo 2 and its expansion never came to ps1 either. But it was released to the mac at the same time as the PC release.
When was the last tiem blizzard made a console game, not counter SC: Ghost. Well Justice League Task Force for the SNES back in 1995.
Blizzards standing is that they want to keep the PC gaming venue alive and strong. Which is the oppisite with Rockstar for making a console only GTA4. Which they have no plans currently to make a PC port.
Oops forgot to end with I think Diablo 3 will be stickign to the PC, with no future prospect of a console port. But who knows, there could be a change of design a week or a month from now.
…..wy does it matter they will probably stick to pc if they do make it for a console it will probably be for the xbox360 but the game play i think would be way better on the ps3 and i really dobt they would make it for the wii…. even though the game play would be awsome on it >:) just to let you guys know blizzadr makes 150,000,000$ dollars a month off of wow so the dont have any budget limits really…..
Wow. Just what makes owning a $6000 computer something to be proud of? What exactly is the point of spending that much money on something so insignificant? If I recall correctly, my iBook cost me about $1,000 four years ago, and can still kick the ass of a high end PC with regards to a lot of technical programs. The $400 PS3 sitting in my living room does the job just fine.
But, if spending thousands and thousands of dollars on your computer is worth it, I’m sure that driving around in your piece of shit car, wearing clothes you bought from Wal-Mart, and eating frozen food for dinner every night is too.
Me? I’d rather drive around the sports car, wear the nice clothes, eat good food, and just skip worrying about whether or not my computer can play the “latest and greatest video games”. Get a fucking life.
Oh, and just for the record. The word “gay” is not an insult or a descriptive for an object. So saying that “teh PS3# is toooo gay for dat video gmame” makes no fucking sense.
Gee I am getting old and my PC was giving me RSI faster than using a PS3, and for that type of console I reckon it’s a good idea to port it over - not to mention the extra audience that they’ll have = big $$$$.
I rather use console buttons to do whirlwind on my barbarian than using number keys, I don’t last very long on a keyboard nowadays.
What’s wrong with multi platform anyway? People who wants to own Diablo on PC can surely still do that? If they do that then i don’t have to upgrade my PC.
One thing about the console is the patches though…
StarCraft 3 on the other hand should stay on the PC platform though. RTS should never be for the joypad.
What you all have to remember is that they have also made D3 so that you can play it with just the mouse, that means a single input method. If this is the case it becomes even more suitable for the console market. Why would a game that is going to be based purely on the PC ignore the Keyboard unless they have made a concious decision to have the game “Possibly” portable onto the console platforms.
With one input method, it is more possible than ever to map to a controller.
Movement by analogue, D-pad to access menu’s and face buttons to cast spells, infact the single inpur method means that it is actually more beneficial on a console controller as there are more buttons.
Blizzard have stated that you can still use a keyboard but it is not essential.
I think PC will be first but I hope they do release it on Console. This generation of consoles are more than capable of handling this game, maybe with the exception of the Wii due to graphical power, and the online portion would be no problems (It is Battle.net online gaming not MMO)as the modern consoles already have FPS games with 42 players and soon to be 60 players in one game so the graphics and player numbers ins D3 will be no issue.
With regard to gaming on PC’s compared to consoles it is a discussion that can never be won. Consoles are better from a development point of view as the optimisation and the bug checking is all done with a know hardware profile, PC’s are so varied (no two are identical)that making sure the game works on all PC’s is a lot harder task. Pc’s are more up to date with technology, but that comes at a price.
I use both console and PC for gaming and I must say that I prefer the Console (I own a PS3) the reason for this is that I know that any game is going to work without me having to spend a lot of money on upgrading. I have had to upgrade my PC2 times in the last 2 years to play new games, with my PS3 I know I will never have to upgrade it to play the games.
I know that in 3 years PC with be far in advance but I actually prefer knowing I can go into a shop and buy a game that will run without having to check the rating panel on the back of the game and the spec’s of my, and I know that I will never have a software conflict meaning that although my PC is suitable another piece of software means I cannot use the game.
I think arguements without substance are pointless so people saying it should not be on X console because Y is better, really should explain why and just saying because X console is Gay is not an explanation.
I really hope that Blizz do make the game for all Platforms as it will keep a lot of people happy. Why would it upset people for the game to be made on Console? Why are PC gamers so down on Console gamers, we play games for fun to a status symbol, or that is what I thought. There is enough room in the gaming market for both groups, and so long as PC gamers and console gamers all have a chance to play I cannot see an issue.
When it all comes down to it consoles have been used for games for a lot longer than PC have (Pc was originally a business machine) but the upgradeability of PC saw it pass consoles in the eyes of gamers. New technology for consoles can never keep up with PC’s but I think the core stability of the systems makes up for this.
Come on guys everyone should be able to play a game such as D3, don’t you think the more money Blizz can get, and the more the loyal fan base, the better for future projects, and now that Blizz has aquired Activision, console games are more than possible.
