hey man, I go to an art college where conceptual art and illustration are both majors. The Diablo piece is much more conceptual than the Warhammer piece, comparing them is utterly pointless. One is a concept piece while the other is an illustration. Neither one shows any superiority in skill to be honest. To be able to create a flowing piece with loose brush strokes is in a way more impressive than the hours spent adding detail to the Warhammer piece. At the end of the day which you think is more appealing is a matter of opinion just like comparing Picasso to Dali. I can tell you from personal experience both of these pieces took skill and thought, The difference was purpose and time.

thanks for the read, btw helllla late reply

I think the diablo 3 art is awesome...more epic than that very generic warhammer illustration..i cant wait for this game..it looks good..ppl should stop complaining..if you dont like the lighter art scheme..go play gears of war or something..because your opinion is invalid

The barbarian drawing is a conceptual image. It's a beautiful drawing with vitality, presence and purpose. If you're putting it down in favour of the frankly uninspiring Warhammer art, you clearly have no place in judging these matters. "Detail" is nothing in a conceptual drawing. The barbarian sketch tells you so much about his character with a level of ease that can only be called skillful.

Wow! Dont you release that there are all different levels of concept art, ranging from quick sketches, to promotional art where they spend weeks rendering an image.

Not all concept art is done at the level of promotional art. Dont complain that sketches are sketches. I guarantee you the warhammer team uses sketches too, they'ld be stupid and wasteful if every idea was explored with promotional renderings.

I think its really cool that blizzard is confident enough to reveal their sketches.

Detail certainly don't make everything on a picture.

I personally find the Blizz pic far more superior in character, style an attractiveness than the War one.

In a good picture, you have to vanish certain points and emphasize others so the eye can be guided to where you want it to look. So the picture lives, have focal, have atmosphere, the viewer varies between soft and rough, detailed and not, far and close, hot and cold etc.

The War pic have none of these. It doesn't even have a recognizable brush stroke, the "mojo"that would make the drawer recognizable from others.

As everything is treated equally and with the most "normalisation" possible, the eye just files around, never attracted by something special.
The color palette is disgusting, and the traits are banal. And the monochromatic grey background... sorry, but no.

I'm way more attracted to the Diablo art which have a lot of personality and dynamics, than the War one, which I find boring as my grandmother's carrot garden.

I agree Warhammmer has superior art and I find that not many players care unfortunately. I feel the art only makes the virtual experience more real.
