According an ex-Blizzard employee, Diablo 3 will be a MMORPG, similar to WOW. There will be two factions: Heaven and Hell (similar to Alliance and Horde in WOW) who’ll be fighting for supremacy.
Now, I can really believe that. Diablo 2 has unlimited and FREE replayablilty over at battle.net. No one at the finance department wants that. They’d rather we pay for it. Here’s one power-player’s opinion:
Diablo just cannot be MMORPG… The game has always been based around overwhelming odds and solo hack and slash glory. Turning it into an MMORPG would take away those factors. Team/faction play would be introduced and it would eliminate the “doomed” feeling one gets when playing the Diablo franchise. The only way you could have it MMO is if it were Angels versus Demons, with the Humans split between each side. It wouldn’t feel anything like the Diablos of old, and most players would become disappointed and quit. At least I would.

Update: Paul Sams, Blizzard’s COO, said that Blizzard is not dead set on making just MMOs. At the same time, Vivendi said ALL future games will be MMOs. Will we see a World of Diablo or a Diablo 3?
Please Let us Hope That Diablo 3 Will Not Include a Membership Charge of some sort… No Game in the History of gaming has ever charged to play Multiplayer after you have already payed ENOUGH at the counter… Why do you think so many people try to RIP off Games… They Cost an Arm and A Leg… We are Already paying our Cable Bills… Phone Bills.. I am a harcore diablo fan, still rating d2 as the best game of all time, especially online, i have played WoW and it is ok, but it still doesnt come close to diablo.
When are you guys going to bring d3 out? weve been waiting too long, your going to lose so many fans who will convert to WoW.
Oh and by the way Diablo will never be suited to MMORPG, If you are going to make it one, please dont title it Diablo 3 , as it will tarnish what reputation diablo has.
If they were going to make us pay for it wouldnt it be more like the x-box where u have to pay so much for six months or so? i mean it wouldnt be that bad to pay 50$ a year if it was worth it right?
I’m a hardcore fan of diablo, i was dreaming of a game like diablo to come out before it did. Diablo 3 was expected when Diablo 2 was released and sadly it is spreading around that Diablo 3 will be a MMORPG when that is just really sickening. the point of Diablo was that you were solo and alone; the only hero that was alive to face the great evil. Now, Diablo 2 was okay not that great but did make up with the new ability tree and armors. Still the fact remains that our top game of all may soon be ruined. I don’t know what to say really but that the creators are about to fuck us over. Diablo an MMORPG what the f***! They’ll of course more then likely charge us monthly to play as they do to those who play World Of Warcraft. It’s just sad and I just would hate to see our greatest game ever ruined by Blizzard. But, there is nothing we can do.

Diablo would never be able to function as a MMO because the whole premice of all the games is based on single player then maybe grouping up with some friends and going to kill stuff together. IF blizzard were to make an MMO from Diablo i would not buy or PAY MONTHLY for it. monthly payments are the reason i never play MMORPGs becaue i have other things i need to pay for.
Hey, if you guys keep encouraging the fact that, “Oh, if it is pay-to-play, I’ll still play!” Then Blizzard will deffinately make it pay-to-play. But if those of us who agree that once Diablo becomes a money involved game, such as WoW, we’ll stop playing, then Blizzard won’t make it pay-to-play because they know they’ll lose all their money sources in one of their biggest franchise’. But Diablo, a MMORPG? …Sad story…

Well, actually it wouldn’t be too bad if D3 were to be turned into an MMORPG. I’ve been a big fan of Diablo for many years, although, once you actually beat the game, which doesn’t take long, it get’s pretty old. If they were too turn it into a MMO, I would suggest for you too still be able to be solo “hack and slash” but just that they keep updating missions, items, and whatnot like they do with WOW. Cause really when you think about it after you beat the game, all there is left to do is boss runs for items, and pvp, and even that get’s repetitive.

Diablo should be left as the style it is its a classic type of game and changeing it to a net baced only gaME THAT U HAVE TO PAY TO PLAY will ruin it i think the 1 and 2 are great and if it changes to a game like Wow or everquest i would be disapointed big time
we always assume that what people are making or trying to bring something new is a bad thing. like rock bands, when they change their style, ull be like oh they sound like shit now, but do u guys think that u could do better?? now a days, we always try to make something new so that our reputation/name will go up, and i am pretty sure that blizzard is doing the same thing. diablo as people said shud not be a MMORPG, but what if it turns out really great?? so i guess u shudnt judge by hearing things that is going around the net, by the way, just remember that blizzard never lets u down, and if they do, go fuck ur self !
i do like the idea of diablo as an mmorpg as long as they keep it dark and lonely not like what they did with warcraft,
(a cartoony cuddly game where gnomes bite ur ankles and you can dance by typing /dance) ,
they should make it for slower computers as (i have 1 lol) as diablo games are suppose to be simple and fun
the heaven vs hell thing sounds cool, i hope they dont make it pay to play,
in conclusion i like the idea but i hope they dont follow the Wow franchise
If Diablo III is a MMORP game I will puke! Also I sure as hell ain’t going to endorse it if theres a monthly charge… NO Sir. Diablo II was a stretch to begin with the multiplayer aspect took a lot of the solo fun that Diablo provided.
One thing is for sure Diablo needs to have more quests and a larger world. It also needs more cinematics/ grander story line. I want the story to get somewhere… following the wanderer was Boring. I wanted to see paladins sorceress barbs zons & necros in the cinematics! I wanted to get to know them better. Also make the items more adaptable/expandable so that a skilled player needs to have brains and not time to be a good player. I hate how its always the players who have no life who own.
OK, ok d3 could be ok as an MMO, because I like the idea of choosing good or evil for my characters on a Diablo, although if its just gay little quests like on WOW all day I want no part. Oh and I DO NOT WANT TO PAY 60 BUCKS A MONTH TO PLAY IF IT IS SEMI DISAPOINTING AS AN MMO………w/e look on the bright side…
Oh ya it needs more BIG quests not like kill 10 demons which is predictable for WOW. I also needs Bigger world too…..come on blizzard, think BIG!

yo…..if u make diablo 3 like WoW the main key is to keep the story line right u mess that up and u lose about 60% of fans and players and if u make people pay no one will even buy the game and if it is an mmorpg u would have to make races like in wow and no half-ass races like u would have to do sorces amazons necros barbs etc. etc. and u would have to make sides for the races of the game will be plain out boring and if u do pvp make that like in wow wit the battle grounds and all or just click on a char and request a duel so if u do it that way i think it will be awsome and i would buy it…….but yall barly even read these so just saying this gives me hope and if u do read this e-mail me i want to no wut u think my e-mail…….Aharris_a@yahoo.com

Seems to me a number of people are quite shortsighted. I’ve heard from a fairly reliable source that D 3 has been worked on for years and will indeed be a MMORPG (not quite as certain as the fact that the game is in the works). I’m not sure why many think this is a bad idea. The game will be released at the earliest in two to three years. At that point WoW will be about six years old. By then, many people will have tired of it. Only the true addicted diehards will remain. I can almost guarantee you that if D 3 is a MMORPG it will be a huge success. There are many, myself included, who don’t like the Warcraft genre and would jump at an opportunity to play Diablo online. You can’t just rest your lorals on one game. In six years WoW would have seen it’s time and there will be a huge craving for something new. The old concept of RPGs (hack and slash the same enemies over and over) has come and gone. It’s clear the new trend is MMORPG.
about it being MMORPG that tarkus mentioned….we cant say for sure if it will success or not…i used to be a WoW player..kinda sickening and hectic at the beginning wit all the quests and friends partying wit u…but as soon as they changed the pvp system u could clearly tell how many ppl quit playing it…the point is wit just one fuck up, the whole game goes down and if diablo3 doesnt keep the old styled enviroment that sucked us all into it wit the old diablos, i can tell, it will definetly go down shortly after release, but still MMORPG P2P SUCK ASS, F2T FOR REAL….

Please not another MMO. As many have said, the single hero battleing evil aspect is the core of the Diablo feel. how many times have I died from Diablo’s red lightning and come back to face him again, getting help from a bunch of high lvl players will totally ruin the feeling.

Making it an MMO would be a bad idea, at least as far as charging for it. If they make the next Diablo an MMO, they should make it so thier are more recognizable features of the past games and expansions. Like the doomed feeling you get is a great idea to keep. I mean it gives the player that extra boost to get themselves out of a clinch. They need to keep the random weapon/item drops, don’t list that you will get a weapon or item by killing this beast or demon. Quest items are different but try to make it a surprise like, finding the sets on D2 and LoD makes the game worth replaying over for a millionith time. Random unique boss’s and quests are also a huge part of this game. What I find to be the best part of the battle.net function is the fighting creatures that increase in strength for every person on your game. This gives the players more of a challenge which is an essential part of any online game MMO or not. Besides having to pay for it, the massive raids that occur on the MMOs take out a lot of the fun, thats why they should keep the number of members per party, to a minimum as well as only allowing one party no more than two conduct an attack on certain area, creature, or boss. The creators should also keep free servers for those of us that want to sample the games basis. All I’m saying is that if D3 is an MMO, the serious players like most if not all of us here, need to decide if we will accept it as part of the Diablo phenom or as another failed sequal to the great game that is DIABLO.

Not that I think of it that is true. Traditional MMOs do take away a lot if not all of the classic feel that Diablo 2 would have. We are just saying that if they could make the game that way that would be great. I know they won’t, but they should consider releasing it as a solo game with online capabilities, much like D2LoD. We’ll just have to see what happens when the game is released.

but u have misunderstood, the old feelings i said was not just for the classic feeling, but included the random items drop, the pattern of monsters, the story lines, the skills threes, the big bosses, the control on characters, n many many many many…..more.

thatS why gamers and game reviewers coined the word diablo-esque.which means it has both solo and multi. the viewport is isometric. the hack and slash. the items and stuffs. and all that describes what is diablo. THAT IS DIABLO. BUT TURNING IT INTO MMO NOW THEY WILL CALL IT WOW-ESQUE. DIABLO-ESQUE OR WOW-ESQUE. SOME THINGS DO CHANGE. BUT I LIKE THE OLD ONE.
To DFan I didn’t take offence, that is why these forums exist, to debate. The only thing I know is that if the game turns out sucking eggs then I will always be able to go back to D2 LoD. I love that game.
If they make a good character creation, I’ll play, I hate the character creation in WOW, along with other things, and to many kids play WOW as well. They should make diablo the MMORPG 18 , but it would be hard to do so. I would prefer to see Starcraft the MMORPG, that would rock.
More than likely Diablo 3 is Blizzard’s Next MMO.
If you look at it, there were hints of Blizzard’s Next Generation MMO - which could only be Diablo 3.
For all you people saying that you wont play if its pay-to-play … I call BS on that. 15 bucks a month aint much at all … just have a couple of beers less in a month and you’re good to go.
Reason why Blizz would pull out a Diablo 3 MMO is pretty simple. The may be making tons of cash right now, but with other games hittin the Market, they;re sure too loose out on player Base.
So They Milk this cash cow untill its bleed dry, then they toss out a new Game. Pretty smart if u ask me.
Sorry to say, NO DIE HARD Diablo Fan will not play D3 if its an MMO - they’ll at bare miniumum try the game out - hit a max lvl and see what end gaming is all about. Blizz aint stupid, they arent gonna make D3 like WoW - that wud just be WoW with different Character Models.
I think it would be interesting to see a Diablo MMORPG, but I agree with how the others said it. I would have to say like how Warcraft became World of Warcraft when it made the leep, and so Diablo will have to become something like World of Diablo or something along those lines.
Also, I don’t agree with paying for the prescrition to play. Once I fork out $50 at the counter, I’m hoping to go home and play it when I want at my leisure and not worry about it burning a hole in my pocket in the process. As a college student, I barely got a lot of time to play the game, let alone the money to be able to cover the charge for a full year round. Especially with the gas prices so far up. So yes, why should I pay for a game at a monthly rate when I won’t even be able to get my money’s worth out of it.
Now this is one reason I like Diablo 2. It’s one of the first faster paced dungeon crawlers out there, and runs absolutely free. Not only can you play alone, but you can get a few friend in on it yourself. And the Blizzard server helps verify a legitimate character so you don’t have to worry about power gamers and hackers. When Lord of Destruction came out, I chipped in to get that even. Which really enhanced the gameplay and content. But if I had to pay anymore than that just to play Diablo 2, I wouldn’t of been playing for as many years as I have.
So as a Diablo 2 fan, I dearly hope that whatever is done for the 3rd game, that it comes out with nothing more than the front counter charge. If you wish, tighten down your CD-Keys and make it so you have to activate it. That way any CD-Key that gets used, you know you have received money for it. On top of that, make sure that every CD-Key can only have a single instance of it logged into the server at a time. This should help control the whole Torrent frenzy.
man if they are gonna make a d3 and have it be a mmo, id like to see the characters become multi gender. as well as allowing you to alter armor details and tatoos( like the blue on the barbs head)
Then make it so that there are 2 armies, heaven and hell, and then take a note from fable. make it so the decisions you make in the game and during quests will define your alleigence. then make alleigence-specific armors and weapons. then have all the diablo 2 classes, plus a few more, and you will instantly need to make 2 of every kind/ 1 good 1 evil. they should also have your features change depending on how angelic or demonic your character is.
IF they put SOMETHING like that into an MMORPG then i would glady play the game
Too be honest, i think if they make it pay-to-play it wouldn’t make it so great, and making Diablo 3, an MMoRPG? i don’t think it should be done, everyone loved the Diablo 1-2 Solo, keep diablo as an Open MMO, and a non-pay to play.
Besides that unlike any Solo play yours will be different if you have the factions
Heaven vs. Hell. deciding factions instead of just 1. it’ll be tight.
