Diablo 2 Weapons FAQNew in Diablo 2: Melee weapons now vary in rangeIn Diablo, all melee weapons have the same range - 1 tile. But come to think of it, range really matters. Especially, if you're armed with a dagger and assault a fierce-looking guard yielding a 10-foot halberd. So things have changed for better: every type of weapon now has its own range illustrated by its screen size in pixels. Polearms and spears reach farthest, swords have medium range, and finally, daggers and wands have extremely short ranges. Weapons with greater ranges can be especially useful in a party. Your polearm will hit the monster without hitting the fellow in front of you. New in Diablo 2: Target the monster to hit itIIn Diablo II you need to target (highlight) the enemy instead of just swinging in his direction. There's a penalty to your accuracy if you swing at monster without targeting it (i.e. targeting another monster). The same is true for ranged attacks - you need to hover over your victim. However, it seems in the case with ranges weapons the penalty is much less. New in Diablo 2: Weapons have new characteristicsAll weapons in Diablo II are classified into groups (i.e. Classes). At this point, we distinguish the following weapon classes: Axes, Blunts, Bows and Crossbows, Polearms, Spears and Javelins, Staves and Wands, Swords, and Throwing Weapons. These will be useful in determining your weapon Masteries. Attack rates existed in Diablo but now they have finally made it to the weapon information window. For example, a heavy crossbow is rated as very slow while a sabre is very fast. New in Diablo 2: Weapons have new modifiersAs in Diablo, enchanted weapons with important modifiers are available in Diablo II (in much more abundance, though). However, the modifiers have changed.
